Can hyaluronic acid injections remove dark circles?
Yes—hyaluronic acid (HA) injections can help some types of dark circles, but they don’t work for all causes.
HA is mainly useful when the “dark circle” is driven by:
Hollowing/tear trough indentation (shadowing from volume loss)
Mild skin laxity where the under-eye contour looks sunken
General volume depletion that creates a shadow effect
In these cases, HA can restore volume and smooth the transition, which may reduce the shadow and make the under-eye look brighter.
If the dark circles are primarily from:
Pigmentation (brown/gray discoloration from melanin)
Thin skin + visible veins (vascular factors)
Allergies, rubbing, eczema or chronic inflammation
Sleep deprivation/iron deficiency (systemic contributors)
…then HA may help only a little or not at all, and other treatments (topicals, laser/light therapies, microneedling, addressing allergies, etc.) may be more effective.
The under-eye has a higher risk of complications than many other areas. Risks include:
Bruising/swelling
Nodules or asymmetry
In rare cases: vascular occlusion (a medical emergency)
